SAMI Manufacturing Opens Modernized Factory in Valga and Triples Production Capacity

The SAMI Group celebrated the opening of a thoroughly renovated production complex in Valga, resulting in the company's production area growing from the previous 4,000 square meters to more than 8,000 square meters. An investment totaling 8.5 million euros will henceforth allow SAMI products to be manufactured from start to finish at the Valga factory and sent directly to customers worldwide. During the renovation, the existing production building was modernized and a new production wing was built alongside it. A series of top-level production machines were added to the factory, including a new powder coating line costing over two million euros. To increase energy efficiency, an energy storage system connected to solar panels was also established, with a battery park capable of storing up to one megawatt of energy. According to Gert Jugala, Chairman of the Board and majority owner of SAMI AS, the development of the Valga factory has been a long-term goal for the company.

“Our goal is to manufacture products with high added value. We do not wish to limit ourselves solely to metal processing, but to create complete solutions – we cut, bend, weld, paint, and add hydraulic and electrical systems. This results in a product with significantly higher value,” said Jugala.

Focus on product development and export

According to Ellis Pääsuke, Marketing and HR Manager of the SAMI Group, the company is investing heavily in product development to expand its product range and increase export potential.

“SAMI produces and sells road maintenance equipment under its own brand. While our strength has primarily been in winter season products, such as snow plows and road sweepers, we are currently actively developing solutions that do not depend on the presence of snow. This opens up new markets and opportunities for us in various countries,” Pääsuke explained.

One of the success stories of recent years has been the SAMI chain mower CM-1700, the production of which will continue at the Valga factory in the future.

New jobs and growth potential

Currently, 45 people work at the Valga factory, but the company plans to grow the team in the coming years. Mechanical engineers and production specialists are particularly welcome.

“The factory’s goal is to triple its turnover. In the future, this will also mean significantly more jobs,” said Antti Pahapill, CEO of SAMI Tootmine.

According to A. Pahapill, the automation of production does not reduce the need for qualified employees. “New robots and equipment require people to operate them. Likewise, assembly and final finishing will largely remain the task of humans. Our goal is to manufacture SAMI products entirely in Valga, without having to transport them to Saue during the production process. In the future, finished products will move from here directly for export.”
